Navigating the accreditation requirements for GPs with extended roles can be complex. Several nationally administered accreditation processes exist, including those offered by the RCGP and the British Association of Dermatology framework.
In most cases, demonstrating additional expertise in your chosen field is sufficient—whether at appraisal or when applying to provide local services. Formal accreditation, while valuable, is not always mandatory.
In addition to the main RCGP GPwER resources, we are developing a comprehensive library of collated information and guidance to support GPs pursuing extended roles.
